Prot Warriors can’t tank?
I was reading WoWInsider and saw where their warrior blogger was whining about how Prot warriors are undesirable tanks. And went WTF?
Because he misstated the problem. The problem is people don’t want warriors to tank because they aren’t Prot. Arms warriors are soso tanks and Fury warriors just plain suck at tanking. On my server, I know of 3 Prot warriors (true, I’m not in the largest guild, but we have like 15 warriors, and only 1 of those is prot). The truth is that most people don’t WANT to tank. It’s a miserable job, almost as bad as healing. When TBC came out, and druids got real tanking skillz, and Prot pallies were buffed later, Warriors started respeccing like crazy. And then they sucked at tanking. So people started forcing feral druid into the role. Then pallies started speccing prot because they wanted to tank. And then people found they could tank. While non-prot warriors still sucked at it. And that’s why people don’t ask for warriors to tank. The odds of finding a prot warrior anymore are so small as to make them endangered.

Tanking is fun but there are too many players that don’t understand threat and aggro management. I think this is why most of the prot warriors went on to another tree. It is so frustrating being in a group with 3 DPS’rs all soloing a different mob and screaming that the tank isn’t holding aggro.
I love tanking when everyone understands the game, it is when they don’t and think a tank is a magic aggro magnet that can spam some kind of AoE perma taunt that tanking is a bitch.
Prot warriors can tank but the group has to let them. In most cases everyone is trying a speed run through the instance and the blame goes on the tank who is not given time to establish aggro or the healer who was out of mana when the mage decided to pull a group of 6 elites with a pyroblast.
