First impressions: Age of Conan
Well, I’ve played Age of Conan through closed Beta and the first week of release now. My very first thought is that it isn’t a WoW killer.
There are some interesting things about AoC…the combat controls are far more interactive than WoW’s. Or EQ’s. However, the novelty wears off moderately quickly. For one thing, you have to keep pressing buttons to keep attacking. There’s no autoattack. I find this annoying.
The game, as far as I have played it is all quest based on the PvE side. I’m on a PvE server so I haven’t seen much PvP. There don’t appear to be any factions or any reputation grind, which is good.
The graphic are pretty good, but they are taxing on a system. I have GeForce 7950, which isn’t a low end card (it’s not high end either, I’ll grant you). I have the video setting near minimal to play. Otherwise I just have too much lag.
Other than that, the story is interesting enough. It’s a pleasant diversion until WOTLK comes out for me. I doubt I’ll keep it up for more than 6 months or so, but it gives me a break when I’m bored.
For any of my friends who pick up the game, I’m on the PvE server Gwalhur.
